Smardale Nature Reserve offers stunning scenery and is a great place for flowers, butterflies and birds. If you love looking for wildlife while you're out rambling, this series of walks are for you. They've been devised exclusively for Cumbria Wildlife Trust by Richard Arrowsmith.

The Smardale Walks cover a range of beautiful landscapes and habitats. The circular routes range from 5 miles to 10 miles and offer different terrains. You may well discover some quiet, tucked-away corners for the first time!
The walks feature Wildlife Highlights and describes the wonderful variety of birds, plants or animals that you are likely to see on the walks and points out interesting geological and historical facts along the way.
The walk routes are illustrated with a wonderful selection photos to help you identfy key features.

There are five Smardale walks available to download:
- Route A - A circular route from the car park at the Nature Reserve via the viaducts and back over Smardale Fell
- Route B - A circular route from the car park at the Nature Reserve via the viaducts, over Smardale Fell and down to Waitby Greenriggs
- Route C - A circular walk from the car park via Crosby Garrett and back via the viaducts
- Route D - A circular walk from Newbiggin-on-Lune to Smardale Viaduct
- Route E - A circular walk from Newbiggin-on-Lune to Smardale and Crosby Garrett
