Take action for nature by volunteering with us

Opportunities for younger conservationists

Concerned about biodiversity loss? Want to take action for nature with like-minded people your own age? If yes, then you're in the right place!

We welcome volunteers of all ages to learn and help support local wildlife.

Whether you are looking to complete your John Muir Award, volunteer as part of your Duke of Edinburgh Award or you are passionate about nature and want to do your bit – we might have the right opportunity for you!

How can I take action for wildlife?

We've a range of opportunities for under 18's to take action, meet like-minded people, learn new skills, gain work experience and enjoy time in the outdoors – rain or shine!

Wildlife Watch Groups (ages 6-12)

Wildlife Watch is here for kids that can't get enough of exploring the great outdoors or those desperate to find out a bit more about the weird and wonderful creatures we share our world with. We run Wildlife Watch Groups in Barrow, Grange, Kendal, Carlisle and Cockermouth. The groups meet once a month and sessions are run by our trained volunteers. Find out more.

Young Volunteer Days (ages 11-16 )

Join one of our 'kids only' conservation days. During the summer holidays we run practical volunteer sessions including drystone walling, tree planting, reserve maintenance for secondary school aged pupils to volunteer independantly alongside our reserve managers.

Conservation Career Days (Teenagers)

Want to get a flavour of what it's like to work in conservation? We run work experience days for teens to learn practical conservation skills, learn about wildlife and gain real life experience in the sector. Session vary depending on location and time of year.

Career development (18 and over)

We offer internships, placements and apprenticeships for students studying a relevant degree and for those who are wanting to start a career in conservation. You can find out more here.
