A gift in memory of a loved one is an especially touching way to remember them
Our wildlife conservation charity is all about creating and maintaining wild places where nature and people alike can thrive.
By donating in someone’s memory, that person will be forever remembered as someone who helped to ensure Cumbria's wildlife and wild places are there for future generations to enjoy.
It may be that you're choosing to make a one off donation, or you might be considering a funeral collection or online memory page. Whatever your reasons for seeking this page out, please know that we are deeply grateful.

Any gift made in memory is considered to be particularly meaningful and will serve as a fitting memorial to someone who loved nature.
Take a look below for some ways to commemorate a loved one
Create an online memorial page
This is a good way to provide a platform for friends and relatives to remember a loved one online.
They can make a donation in their memory and include some words to accompany this if they so wish. As the creator of the memory page, you can choose to include an obituary of your loved one - or simply write a few words explaining why the page has been set up. This might include something along the lines of how much the person loved nature and that donating to a cause close to their heart is a fitting tribute.
You may also wish to include a photo or two - this is entirely up to you. You can edit the page whenever you like and can add further words or photos as people start interacting with the page.
You might wish to consider including a link to your online page in any funeral announcement you make.
If this is something you'd like to do, we recommend you choose from one of the two following options:
Just Giving - Instructions on how to set up page
If you're familiar with Just Giving, this may be your preferred choice. They charge [us] 1.9% + 30p for each donation given in GBP (2.9% +30p per donation, if given in another currency). Whilst you can simply direct people to our Just Giving page, we suggest you set up an individual memory page for the person you're remembering. This gives you the opportunity to direct people specifically to a page which is all about them, instead of people donating to our general page. It's a straightforward process.

MuchLoved - Instructions on how to set up page
MuchLoved is a charity dedicated to helping bereaved people create their own personalised online tribute site in memory of a loved one. The memorial page is completely free to set up, and there are lots of ways to personalise the page. They charge [us] 3.2% + 1.9% + 20p card fees per donation processed. They also apply a 3.2% charge for processing gift aid.

Or, you may wish to look at our current campaigns as there might be a particular project we’re raising money for that resonates with you and the person you’re remembering.
Take on a challenge in memory of someone
Another popular way to commemorate a loved one, is by taking on a challenge and raising funds for Cumbria's wildlife in the process. Not only can it be good to get out of your comfort zone every now and again, it's a great way to generate some positive energy and may help you through your grieving process. Check out some of the local challenges you can do, or get some inspiration to organise your own unique challenge.
Arranging a funeral collection
Have you thought about asking for a donation in lieu of flowers? If you feel it’s something the person you're remembering would prefer, many people involved in organising funerals for loved ones choose to ask that instead of flowers, mourners consider making a donation towards a cause they know was important to the deceased person.
There are a number of ways you can go about this: when discussing arrangements with the funeral director, ask that this request is made known in any public announcement made about the person's death or their funeral, and that they mention it to anyone contacting them about funeral details. If you share details about the wake, mention it there too.
If you have set up an online memory page, you could ask that the link to this is included in any announcements via the funeral director, and also share it with family and friends of the deceased. Please see further up the page for information regarding creating an online memorial page.
For cash donations, we can provide you with donation envelopes or you can request that your funeral director arrange for a collection box. This can be left in a prominent place at both the funeral and wake, if that feels appropriate. As many people no longer carry cash, you could consider putting a QR code on the box linking to the memory page, so that people can easily scan this and make a donation online.
Leaving a lasting legacy yourself
A gift in your Will is a simple yet powerful way to keep your wishes alive.
Over the years, gifts in Wills have directly purchased land that we look after as nature reserves, improved habitats for threatened species and helped some of our most loved wildlife return to our fells and valleys.
We thank each and every person who has contributed so much to conservation in Cumbria over the years and those who will contribute in the future.
