'I love what I do for Cumbria Wildlife Trust and feel proud to be associated with the organisation. In these difficult times globally, it is trying to guide us all to have a stake in the future for the benefit of our families, our environment and our wildlife.'
Jan McArthur
Fantastic long-term volunteer Jan initially became a Cumbria Wildlife Trust member before getting involved with volunteering. She’s an invaluable member of the team at our Head Office, registering new volunteers and matching them to suitable roles. Here's more from Jan:
'How glad I am that, in 2002, I opened the door to a Cumbria Wildlife Trust membership recruiter and began what was to become a very worthwhile relationship with a wonderful organisation.
The membership pack and the magazines opened up a chance to indulge my lifelong interest in the natural world and to wonder whether I could be involved in a more practical way.
After plucking up courage to ring the head office at Plumgarths and asking to speak to the officer who dealt with volunteers, I was invited in for a chat and felt immediately at home. The welcome was a warm one and I was given a role on a new project called 'Wildlife in Sacred Places' that I felt I could manage. To see at first hand the sort of work that the Cumbria Wildlife Trust did and to witness the 'people power' of the army of volunteers who signed up to help was inspiring.
Over the past few years, my role has been office-based. I have learnt so many new skills in this time and have been grateful for all the support I’ve had from Trust staff and other volunteers. Most of my work involves registering new volunteers and wherever possible, trying to match them up with suitable opportunities.
I love what I do for Cumbria Wildlife Trust and feel proud to be associated with the organisation. In these difficult times globally, it is trying to guide us all to have a stake in the future for the benefit of our families, our environment and our wildlife.'
