Our history
It all began in 1912 when Charles Rothschild, who pioneered the whole concept of nature reserves in this country, set up the Society for the Promotion of Nature Reserves - which evolved into today's Royal Society of Wildlife Trusts - the parent organisation of our 47 Wildlife Trusts.
The Wildlife Trusts: Our priorities for the next UK Government
The wildlife we have in the UK is incredible, with species found nowhere else on Earth. But decades of pollution and habitat loss has destroyed the places they call home and driven wildlife into chronic decline. Shockingly, 1 in 7 species in the UK is now at risk of extinction.
