Global ticketing service digs deep to help Cumbria’s peatbogs
Event ticketing platform Ticket Tailor paid a visit to Foulshaw Moss Nature Reserve recently, to help clear invasive plant species at this significant peatbog near Witherslack.
Ticket Tailor is one of our business partners and they wanted to get stuck in, to find out why this raised bog habitat, which has been around for 10,000 years, is being restored and why bogs are so crucial.
Michelle Waller, Head of Green Finance at Cumbria Wildlife Trust said: "We're delighted to be working in partnership with Ticket Tailor, their contributions to our work help protect this crucial habitat. Restoring the bog helps species diversity – it’s now home to key bog-loving plants, adders, lizards and even ospreys. But peatland restoration is also a great nature-based solution to the climate crisis, by keeping it a healthy carbon store. It would be difficult to carry out this important work without donations like these, so we're incredibly grateful to Ticket Tailor for their support."
Ticket Tailor is a certified B Corp, and donates 1p of every ticket sold on its platform to a range of climate causes under their 'Penny for the Planet' scheme. So far Ticket Tailor has donated almost £67,000 to Cumbria Wildlife Trust.
Jonny White, Ticket Tailor CEO and Founder, joined in the hands-on conservation day at Foulshaw Moss. He said: "It's brilliant for the team to take a break from their usual day-to-day to come and see the impact of all our donations. It's really inspiring to witness all the restoration that has gone on here, as well as the thriving wildlife, and the fact that our team can volunteer some of our time to help is the cherry on top of the cake. This connection to the outcomes of our donations reminds us that we're driving real change. Every ticket sale truly makes a difference. And as the business grows, our contributions will only continue to increase!"
Raised peatbogs like Foulshaw Moss were once fairly common, but over 90% of them have gone. They're now one of western Europe's most threatened habitats. We've been restoring this site for over 10 years using a range of specialist techniques. Bogs like this are vital for keeping carbon locked away, and keeping them healthy is one of the nature-based solutions to climate change.
