Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) about fundraising with us

Whilst we have done our best to provide all the information you'll need on our various fundraising webpages, here are some quick link answers to some of the most common questions we receive:

Can I use your logo to promote my fundraising?

To help prevent our logo from being distorted or misused, we don't provide it for individual use, but we offer a poster template featuring our logo that you can use for your fundraising efforts.

Please note that we expect anyone using our poster template to have read our Getting Started and Overview sections thoroughly and read through the relevant links we suggest whilst abiding by any legal requirements currently in place.

How do I get the money I’ve raised to you?

Click here for how to transfer your funds from your amazing fundraising to Cumbria Wildlife Trust. You can send a cheque, transfer your funds directly online, or telephone us. If your fundraising has taken place exclusively online (via JustGiving, Facebook or Instagram), all the money will be transferred to us automatically.

Can I claim Gift Aid on the money I raise?

It depends - if your sponsorship is via Just Giving or Facebook / Instagram, then the gift aid will automatically find its way to us.

Not only is donating via Just Giving, the most cost-effective (there is considerably less admin required on our part which saves a great deal of time), it also allows us to collect gift aid from anyone wishing to take advantage of the scheme (which adds 25% to the donation), and it provides an easy way for supporters to provide their information, should they wish to continue hearing from us.

Facebook and Instagram also enable gift aid to be claimed, but we don't have the same level of administrative access to these platforms as we do with Just Giving.

If you're sending us a cheque/cash or paying in an amount online for money generated through a fundraising event (where people have essentially received a ‘reward’ in exchange for their donation), this is not eligible for gift aid.

In some cases you may wish to collect sponsorship money in person (if a supporter is adamant they don't want to donate online, or you don't have access to the internet). If this is the case, please consider using our donation form (pdf) to keep track of who has pledged/donated what. You'll find information on this donation form about The Gift Aid Small Donations Scheme (GASDS) which is a way for us to claim gift aid on smaller cash donations. It's worth noting that there's a limit to how much we can claim this way per year. We already use the scheme for collection boxes and buckets and once we reach the limit each year (around £8,000), no more can be claimed this way, which is why we always encourage people to donate online if at all possible (preferably via Just Giving as this is currently the most cost effective).

Will you help promote my event?

As much as we’d like to promote all the amazing fundraisers working hard to raise funds for Cumbrian wildlife, we can’t guarantee we will always have the capacity to do this.

That said, please tell us about your fundraising - we'd love to hear about it and keep in touch, and we'll do our best to spread the word.

How easy is it to fundraise online?

Very! There are a variety of ways; from setting up your very own fundraising page on JustGivingor fundraiser on Facebook or Instagram.

There are lots of other ways you can fundraise online too, go to our quick and easy online fundraising page to find out more.

Do I need to comply with any laws to carry out fundraising?

Please follow the necessary guidance, which is usually straightforward. Check out the advice we provide in the Getting Started page and scroll down to the 'Go wild, but keep it safe and legal' section, for advice.

Once you've decided on the fundraising activity you're going to go with, search for specific advice relating to that (the search engines on Fundraising Regulator and GOV.UK are useful).

How will the money I’ve raised be used to help wildlife?

Any money you raise will be put to very good use. Please rest assured, we do everything we can to get full cost recovery on our projects, so a considerable amount of our staffing costs are already covered.

There are lots of ways you can keep informed about the kind of work your fundraising is helping to enable:

How do I set up an in memory page?

Simply head to our In Memory page - all the instructions are there, but if you need some extra help, please get in touch by emailing us.

I need some posters to promote my event...can you help?

Absolutely! We have a poster template in our resources section you can use - simply download it, print and add in details of your event. Don’t forget to ask permission to display posters in public places and take them down again once your event is finished.

Will I get a T-shirt?

We don’t currently provide T-shirts, but this is something we will look into, so watch this space! The likelihood is that T-shirts would be provided to anyone committed to raising £125 or more.
