Any DayWe're looking for enthusiastic volunteers with good people skills to join our team of Osprey Watch volunteers and help share the wonder of our breeding ospreys at Foulshaw Moss Nature Reserve.
You'll help us to monitor the birds and engage with visitors to share the story of this fascinating species.
The role involves sitting in the hide (rain or shine!) and representing Cumbria Wildlife Trust by greeting people visiting the reserve. You can share the history of the site and all about ospreys, from their past and present persecutions, mysterious migration and successful breeding seasons at Foulshaw Moss, to their specialised hunting talents.
This role helps people understand the importance of conserving peatland habitats like Foulshaw Moss, which are important homes for ospreys and much more! We'd also love your help in changing perceptions of peatbogs – that they are something to be treasured and protected, rather than dug up for compost.
The most important skill you'll need for this role is the ability to engage with people in a confident, friendly and helpful way. A good knowledge of local birds and wildlife would also be useful, but isn't completely necessary – we'll train you up with information on ospreys and the site.
The commitment for this role is 1 day per week, between April and August.
This volunteer role is suitable for wheelchair users.
