About the event

Home to the only grey seal colony in Cumbria and countless different species of birds, South Walney Nature Reserve is a dynamic and beautiful place. Walney is an island that is constantly changing under the effects of the wild Irish Sea and the marks left by the people who have lived and worked here over the years.

Meet the assistant warden and learn about South Walney’s birds on this walk and the seals (who will hopefully have pups), whilst taking in the views and learning some of the history of this fascinating place.

Bring sturdy footwear and dress for the weather – don’t forget the locals call it windy Walney! Depending on how much wildlife we see the walk could run some way into the afternoon, so make sure you pack a lunch and plenty of snacks. Bring binoculars if you have them, but a few pairs can be provided.
