Hands-on coastal restoration day
About the event
Come join us for a day out on the marsh deploying BESE-elements®, biodegradable structures made from potato waste-products.
How do they work?
BESE-elements® are designed to stabilise habitats and support ecosystem restoration by buffering local currents and waves, and creating shelter for organisms. This pilot study will assess their effectiveness in restoring saltmarsh in the Solway region.
About the event:
We’ll be heading out onto the tidal flat at either Anthorn, Cardurnock or Campfield marshes to assemble and secure the structures, positioning them in key areas, and anchoring them to ensure stability.
What to bring:
Please dress appropriately in layered warm clothing and bring a waterproof jacket and trousers. This includes sturdy footwear, preferably wellies or walking boots.
Lunch and refreshments will be provided; however, you will need to bring a water bottle and additional snacks if needed.
If you have dietary requirements or need support with clothing or footwear, please contact shovi@solwayfirthpartnership.co.uk in advance—we're happy to help! If you’re unable to attend for the full day, please let us know in advance, and we can make suitable arrangements.
