Do your children love wildlife? Would they like to join like-minded friends and explore their natural world? If so, they’ll love the new Wildlife Watch group we've recently launched in Cockermouth.

Six to 12 year-olds are welcome to join our new group which will meet monthly, starting at the Scout Centre on Tuesday 25 April, exploring wildlife in a way that’s active, fun and engaging.

Ruth Alcroft, Education Officer for Cumbria Wildlife Trust said: “We’re excited to launch the Cockermouth Caterpillars. It’s a great way for young people to make friends with other nature detectives and to explore nature right on their doorstep. In the coming months, we’ll discover creepy crawlies, buzzing bees and butterflies, and explore the woods, making a den and having a go at woodland crafts. We may even run the odd trip away. Why not join us? We’d love to meet you! All our events are run by trained volunteers who know about the local area and wildlife. Anyone who would like to help us run the group would be very welcome too!”

Ruth explains the value of Wildlife Watch: “Sadly, too many of us these days have lost touch with nature. Wildlife Watch groups are a great way for young people to explore and take action for wildlife. As well as making friends, they’ll discover what amazing creatures can be found on our doorsteps and in our local parks. If you live in a town or a city, you’re still surrounded by wildlife, if you know where to look!”
