Black Friday goes green
We’ve all heard of Black Friday but what is Green Friday? It’s a campaign that encourages people to make sure that their purchases at this busy time of year will benefit the environment. The outdoor running gear suppliers inov-8, who took their inspiration from the fells and mountains of the Lake District, are donating five per cent of all Green Friday purchases this year to Cumbria Wildlife Trust, for our carbon reduction projects.
Michelle Waller, Senior Development Officer for Cumbria Wildlife Trust said: “It’s great news that inov-8 are supporting us. Not only will they help us plant trees but also to continue restoring fantastic peatlands like at Foulshaw Moss Nature Reserve. Bogs like this are our best weapon against climate change because they capture and lock away CO2, so that it doesn’t leak back into the atmosphere. Healthy peatlands are the UK’s largest carbon store – they store 28.5 million tonnes of CO2 in the Lake District alone! The income from inov-8 customers’ Green Friday purchases will help us to maintain peatlands, like at Foulshaw Moss, in a healthy condition, in order to keep the carbon locked away.”

inov-8 specialises in footwear, clothing and equipment for trail and off-road runners and hikers. Michael Price, Chief Operating Officer for inov-8 explains why he wanted to collaborate with us: “We need to get a grip on climate change together. The stark truth is there is no Planet B, only Planet A, so we must all play our part to protect it. We’re delighted to be teaming up with Cumbria Wildlife Trust and hope a successful Green Friday sales period will result in us making a significant donation in support of their fantastic work.”
Green Friday is on Friday 27 November, but the inov-8 campaign runs for two weeks, from Friday 20 November. Find out more here,
