About the event

This taster day is for beginners and designed to introduce you to working with green wood, learn the techniques to start safely carving your own creation, and a chance to find out more about how we manage the woodland on the reserve.

As well as carving, learn how to identify some of the main species growing on the reserve, their green wood properties, history and folklore. Carving wood can be very therapeutic as you focus your mind and work with your hands.

The session is led by Tony Saunders from YNOT Coppice who has been working on the reserve as a volunteer, and carving green wood for over 20 years. We’ll provide you with carving knives for the session, or bring your own if you have them.

Participants should bring their own lunch and refreshments, but tea and coffee is provided. If you have any special dietary requirements, please ensure you have catered for yourself. The woodland workshop has areas undercover, but please wear suitable outdoor clothing and bring waterproofs in case of wet weather. If poor weather is forecast, we may need to cancel the session.
