Horticulture Conservation Officer

Salary:£18,216.80 per annum (£26,024 FTE) based on a 24.5 hour week

Contract length: Fixed term for 20 months

As part of the Cumbria Seed Bank project, the purpose of the role is to coordinate and facilitate the collection and propagation of seeds from identified rare plants to contribute to the engagement of species rich grasslands, in conjunction with our grassland specialists.

In addition to working with existing partners, the role of the job will include developing new opportunities for volunteers and young people in the work of the seed bank and propagation nursery.

The role will involve regular weekend work, organising volunteer identification days and visits to see the work of the seed bank, along with working with and supporting the Horticulture Manager to collect, catalogue and store seeds in the seed bank and  involve an element of tree growing for Skiddaw Forest.

The ideal candidate will be self-motivated and have good communication skills, a willingness to learn and a flair and passion for Horticulture. A good general understanding of Horticulture practices and experience, working with volunteers and organising and leading activity sessions for groups would also be advantageous.
